Die Lorelei

Ok, so there is this, like, Dutch folksong called “Die Lorelei”, which means “The Lorelei” in Dutch. But I didn’t know it was in Dutch, so I just saw the title. And I am captivated by this title, lots of ideas floating around in my head. So I read it, and was silly and I was sad, so I wrote a poem called “Die Lorelei”, because I liked the idea, the poem sucked but I liked the story of how I got to writing it, because I usually go through the writing process in screwed up ways, Muse works in mysterious ways. Speaking of Muse, I have a poem I wrote about her, another weird inspiration process, which involves the Odyssey… but anyways, here is the poem. The one about Lorelei.

Die Lorelei

She smiles at me
The sweetness in her laugh
Fills up my heart
As though it were a bath
And her words lavender
And silken skin
Giving desire
To everything within
Lorelei, she says that is her name
To be with her
Is merely, just a game
I follow roads
With clues hidden in eyes
And always there are more
To my surprise
She smiles at me
As though I were a sin
She loves me close
And pulls my heart within
But as the road goes on
My anger grows
My interest, it wilts
Her lips my rose
She’s falling to the earth
Up from the moon
She will be hitting bottom
Oh, quite soon
She was never mine to have
And I just cry
She smiles as I scream
Die Lorelei.

So, yeah, like I said, Kinda sucky. Whatever. Fuck it.
